Amateur Masters Arm

Designer: Jerszy Seymour, 2011

The 'Amateur Masters' are a result of a series of exhibitions by Jerszy Seymour, to create a platform to discuss the possibility of utopia and propose the idea of an 'Amateur' society (meaning lover, appassionato and non-professional as a way of being) using polycaprolactone wax both as a construction material and as a metaphor for the creative energy in all people.

The series of exhibitons, 'First Supper' at the MAK Vienna, 'Salon des Amateurs' at the Marta Herford, and the 'Coalition of Amateurs' at the Mudam in Luxembourg finalised with the auto production of the 'Workshop Chair' by Jerszy Seymour Design Workshop, which is now in the permanent collection of the Centre Pompidou and Vitra Design Museum.

With the ‘Amateur Masters’ series, Jerszy Seymour assumes classic modernist forms but subverts the modernist technocratic meaning by the hand moulded production technique from polycaprolactone wax to produce objects which confront their predecessors as well as acknowledging history.

By not challenging form, Jerszy Seymour means to underline the point that objects support systems and that it is the systems we must challenge and design.

The 'Amateur Masters' series made for NGispeN and connected by the long friendship of Jerszy Seymour and Richard Hutten, is produced by hand at Jerszy Seymour Design Workshop in Berlin.

Polycaprolactone wax is strong and 100% biodegradable.
