University Medical Center Utrecht and Gispen have signed a partnership agreement which allows both parties to realise their circular ambitions.
Gispen has recently installed refurbished desk chairs at the Van Geuns building, which is opposite the medical centre which houses several supporting services. Project manager Noortje van Kerkhof: ‘We were in need of several desk chairs for two project rooms. These areas house workstations that are available to various users, including ICT specialists.’ The procurement department opted for refurbished chairs. Procurement officer Michiel Plancken: ‘A well-thought-through decision, with consideration for both the environment and the costs. We were also curious to see how it would all work out in practice.’
A satisfied customer
The refurbished chairs have been made possible by the joint effort between Gispen and Stichting De Inzet from The Hague. De Inzet is a healthcare foundation for people with a mental or physical impairment. The foundation has a workshop where they guide people in professionally refurbishing desk chairs. The desk chair that was supplied to the Van Geuns building is the NPR model of the Drabert Entrada chair. Noortje van Kerkhof: ‘The chairs are comfortable and easy to use, but what is perhaps an even greater compliment, is that they did not even notice that the chairs were refurbished! I think it’s safe to say that I am a satisfied customer.’
More success stories
Gispen and UMCU (University Medical Center Utrecht) have had a connection for quite some time; the current partnership agreement in the field of circular interior design will last 5 years and can be extended by another 5 years. Matthijs Elsing of Gispen: ‘Besides extending the lifecycle of existing furniture (REVIVED by Gispen), which was accomplished in the abovementioned project, we also reconstruct existing furniture so that it can fulfil a different purpose (REMADE by Gispen). In addition, we keep existing products, components and materials at their highest utility. This is all done in close consultation with the client, of course. We are not simply partners, we share a vision, and this is what’s great about working together.’
