Sustainable thinking is in our DNA.
Responsible materials
The materials we choose have a significant impact on the environmental footprint of an interior. That’s why, for every product we design and manufacture, we take a critical look at where materials come from, what they are made of, how long they last and how easily they can be reused.
Wherever possible, we choose materials with a lower environmental impact, such as recycled, reused or renewable materials. We also design our furniture so that components are easy to maintain, replace and separate. This makes it easier to repair, refurbish or reuse furniture when it comes back to us.
If the complete product can no longer be reused, we recover suitable components and give them a new life in other furniture.
COLOUR PALETTE
We developed our own colour palette, inspired by our rich heritage and designed to bring all our furniture ranges together. From a circular perspective, this offers an additional advantage: by creating harmony across our colours, products can be taken back and reused even more easily in educational, healthcare and office environments.

More sustainable every day
The search for more sustainable alternatives is an ongoing process. Sustainability is embedded in the decisions our employees make every day, from the design of a new product through to production.
Our lacquers meet our basic requirements for material safety and chemical composition, and we use recycled chipboard across our table ranges. We are also continuously improving the sustainability of other parts of our process, from packaging materials and smart logistics to maintenance.

Vision on wood
At Gispen, we see wood as a valuable natural resource. Its unique properties make it an important material in many of our products. At the same time, forests and woodland ecosystems are under increasing pressure. That’s why we believe in using wood carefully and responsibly, with respect for both the material and its source.
Vision on plastics
Plastics have become an essential part of everyday life, but they also have a significant environmental impact. More than 400 million tonnes of plastic are produced worldwide each year, while only around 9% is recycled. A further 22% is mismanaged or ends up in the environment.
As global production continues to grow, so does the pressure on ecosystems. That is why responsible use, reuse and recycling are essential to reduce the environmental impact of plastics.
Vision on fabrics
We select only fabrics that meet high quality standards and are designed to last. We consider performance, application, appearance, feel and environmental impact, working closely with leading European suppliers to make the best possible choices.
Our ambition is to offer a fabric range made entirely from mono-materials and recycled or renewable materials.
TMNL MODULAR DESK SYSTEM
CHIPBOARD
Gispen has been taking back used tabletops for many years and sending them to our partner Pfleiderer. They transform the tabletops into new sheet material, which we use to create new tabletops made from 100% recycled wood. This is how we fully close the material loop!
REVIVED tabletop
A Revived tabletop is an innovative, circular choice for a Gispen TMNL table or desk. It combines a robust material with a long lifespan while reducing environmental impact.
Compact has long been widely used as a material for tabletops. These tabletops can last for up to 30 years, yet in practice they are replaced after an average of just 10 years. As a result, valuable material is lost.
Every year, our Circular Hub receives around 5,000 used Compact tabletops. An external processing partner refurbishes them with a new top layer, preparing the Revived tabletops for their next lifecycle. This process reduces their carbon footprint by around 95%. By repeating the process, we retain the material’s value across multiple lifecycles.
Lightweight tabletop
Looking to reduce your carbon footprint even further? Choose a circular tabletop from Greengridz®. Strong yet lightweight, it is ideal for desks and meeting tables from the TMNL collection. Its low weight also makes it easy to install.
The tabletop features a grid structure made from HDF panels using sustainably sourced, certified wood. The panels are CARB2-certified and formaldehyde-free, and are bonded using environmentally friendly PVAc D3 adhesive. On average, the tabletop is up to 60% lighter than an MFC tabletop.* This reduces the environmental impact of transportation and lowers COâ‚‚ emissions during production and at the end of its lifespan.
PAINT
We have made great progress with our paint solutions.
Our powder coatings are completely free from toxic substances, and our coating process is highly sustainable. During powder coating, we collect and recover all residual powder. The material cannot be reused indefinitely, as the particles eventually become too fine. Rather than discarding it, we supply it to an adhesive manufacturer that uses it in its production process.
Gispen offers a selection of Cradle to Cradle Certified® paint colours in black, white and aluminium. We are currently working to ensure that all our paints meet C2C requirements.
No Waste Powdercoating
Choose our No Waste powder coating, made using recovered coating powder from our own production process. By selecting this option, you help us reduce waste and support our commitment to waste-free production. Available colours are provided on request.
RECYCLING PLASTIC
The seat of our sustainable NOMI chair is unique in both its structure and composition, with 90% made from recycled materials. The remaining 10% consists of a new thermoplastic polymer that is highly UV-resistant and easy to clean. The seats are manufactured using co-injection technology.
For added comfort, NOMI chairs can be fitted with a fabric cover. Naturally, we offer a selection of sustainable fabrics made from materials such as hemp and recycled plastic.

refurbishment
Does your current furniture no longer meet your expectations? Then we can refurbish it, or revitalize it. Think of reupholstering chairs, replacing damaged desktops or giving furniture another improvement. The furniture is then called Revived. We have brought all facilities, professionals and storage space together in the Circular Hub. This allows us to provide you with even faster and more targeted services in the circular field.
