STEP 5

Gispen reaches step 5 on the CO2 performance ladder! Royal Ahrend has been certified on the CO2 performance ladder since 2018. After a successful audit, we now have the highest certification on the ladder for all entities, namely step 5. We have shown that we reduce CO2 in our own sector and in our chain. A great achievement!

CO2 REDUCTION

The CO2 Performance Ladder is the Netherlands' sustainability instrument that helps companies and governments to reduce CO2 and costs. Within business operations, in projects and in the chain. The Ladder is used as a CO2 management system and as a procurement instrument. If a company is certified at the highest step, step 5, then the company demonstrates that it is reducing CO2 in its own sector and in the chain.

HOW DOES THIS WORK?

Every year we map the CO2 emissions of all entities. We communicate transparently about this and have a plan to reduce emissions annually. We also work together in the chain to further reduce emissions beyond our company boundaries. We do this, among other things, by taking back furniture in our Circular Hub, by reducing emissions from all transport together with our transporters by purchasing electric trucks and by separating our production waste and reusing it in a circular manner. In addition, we are in the start-up phase of mapping the emissions of our product portfolio and making the products further sustainable, so that fewer greenhouse gases are emitted during the production of our furniture.

NET ZERO 2050

With all these initiatives, we are working towards our long-term goal of having net zero CO2 emissions by 2050. All our efforts have now been rewarded with the highest step on the CO2 performance ladder. A very nice achievement that we can be proud of. The certificate can be downloaded below.

CLIMATE COMPENSATION

Together with reduction, climate compensation is the route to climate neutrality. Gispen compensates for CO2 emissions through an investment in sustainable climate projects. Examples include: wind energy projects, biogas in Asia, Gold Standard Cookstoves in Uganda and efficient wood ovens in Africa.
