At Gispen, we believe in conscious material choices that contribute to a sustainable and circular future. That is why we have developed clear vision documents for different types of material. In these documents, we describe how we handle the materials we use responsibly in our designs and production processes.

Vision documents are currently available for wood, plastic and fabrics. These documents form the basis for our choices and give direction to our design and procurement policy. We will soon expand this series with visions on other materials — we are currently working on this.

Wood: natural and future-oriented

Wood is a valuable raw material with a warm, natural appearance. At Gispen, we value this material for its versatility and aesthetics – it fits in seamlessly with our vision of sustainable and circular design.

At the same time, we are aware of the pressure on forested ecosystems worldwide. That is why we handle wood carefully and responsibly. We choose our wood from sustainably managed forests and ensure that every application contributes to a longer lifespan and reusability of our products.

Plastics: functional, but with responsibility

Plastics have become an integral part of our everyday lives – they are light, strong and versatile. They also play an important role in our products. But we also know the downside: global production now exceeds 400 million tons per year, while only a fraction is actually recycled.

At Gispen, we take this challenge seriously. Because with growing plastic production, the pressure on our ecosystems is also increasing. That is why we focus on careful use of materials, smart designs and maximum recyclability. In this way, we reduce the ecological footprint of plastic and give the material a second life.

Fabrics: quality, comfort and circularity

At Gispen, we choose our fabrics with care. Only materials that meet the highest quality requirements – in terms of durability, comfort and appearance – find their way into our products. We pay attention to abrasion resistance, tactility and aesthetics, but also to the impact the fabric has on people and the environment.

Together with leading European suppliers, we are building a future-proof fabric range. Our ambition: to use only fabrics that consist of mono-materials and recycled or renewable raw materials. In this way, we contribute to a circular chain, without compromising on quality and design.
