We (re)use furniture that already exists
‘When I started working at Gispen as a project manager 22 years ago, it was already a sustainable business. Traditionally, our furniture is designed in a modular way. Chairs and tables that you can take apart easily and refurbish with new parts and materials, for example. That is the essence of reuse. With over 100 years of experience, we have the knowledge and expertise to make this happen.’
Since the inception of the circular economy in 2015, I have been advising our clients and colleagues as a Circular Consultant on reuse, refurbishment and circular products and services. It's not only my job, it's part of my life. I believe that, as human beings, we have a responsibility to leave the world a better place.'
'A few years ago, we founded the Circular Hub. I am very proud of our ‘creation’. We recondition used furniture this centralised and in-house factory. After they go through the process, the products are like new and can be sold with a warranty again. In 2 years, the Circular Hub has grown from employing 4 to 25 people. And from handling a handful of products to 54,400 refurbished items by 2022.’
At the Circular Hub, we employ workers who are disadvantaged in the labour market. Important, because a sustainable business should also be a social business.'
'Turning our linear process into a circular one meant taking risks and gaining trust. Partly thanks to our colleagues, customers and partners, we have made huge strides in circularity, without sacrificing quality or aesthetics.’
‘I believe that anyone can contribute to a better world. I hope we can inspire others who are not yet convinced, that things can be done differently!'
You are most welcome pay a visit to our Circular Hub, where you can join an interactive session to gain insight into the practice of circular furnishing. Where the concept is explained through sustainable customer cases and concrete examples of refurbishment. And, of course, a tour of the Circular Hub itself. Our circular consultants will provide on-the-spot advice on how to recondition your own furniture and reduce CO2 emissions.
